Meet the Team - Anthony

Anthony has recently moved down to the Blue Mountains from Brisbane to pursue his rock climbing, much to the benefit of Summit Gear customers and detriment of any rock climbs that wish to not be sent. We asked him to tell us a bit about himself so that you can know what is going on in the brain behind those enormous forearms.

What brought you down to the Blue Mountains?
I was initially attracted to the volume of rock and all so close by to the major towns, but also the quantity of hard projects that I could sink my teeth into. I love to challenge myself and see how far I can take my passion for the sport and the Mountains seems like the ultimate testing ground for that.

What were you doing in QLD before you moved down here?
I was working full-time during the week at a local gear shop as a floor manager and spending my weekends up the Sunny Coast climbing at my home crag Mt Coolum. I would also frequently go after work to project some boulders with my mates out at White Rock.

Favourite products stocked at Summit Gear?
A bit of a weird one but I would say my OR Juneau beanie. I wore it everyday during my Euro bouldering trip and it’s always kept my head nice and toasty. In terms of technical kit, I’m a huge fan of my Edelrid Boa 9.8mm climbing rope. I’ve thrashed it at Coolum for multiple seasons and now it’s tanking the sharp mountains edges and still standing strong (although it’s quite a bit shorter now than when I bought it).

What have you been psyched on about Summit Gear?
Working for a company that manufactures gear themselves! I am a great believer in quality products and Summit Gear definitely produces the toughest and built-for-purpose packs I have ever seen. I’m also excited to use my knowledge and experience of climbing products to expand the range so we’ll have gear for everyone, whether that person is climbing big walls in Yosemite or just starting out in the gym.
