This is an ideal hit out for those training for six foot track - with plenty of elevation and hill climbing at the end. Starting at the Fairmont we are going to run along the cliff top to Wentworth Falls. Then up Horden Road, follow Tablelands road to QVH. We then go down Kedumba, cross Jamieson and Leura Creeks before heading back up to Leura Cascades via the Fernbower. We finish by again following the cliff top back to the fairmont. Feb 2nd 2025: The Megalong Mega!

We thought we would re-start our Sunday long run with the Megalong Mega - Great training for those getting ready for 6 Foot Track Ultra. This is one big out and back. Starting at the Cemetery you head down the 6 foot track to the Cox's River, after crossing the river we head straight up the hill before turning around at the top of Pluvi and head back. Plan for 32kms round trip or 110mins out back.

Sunday 17th November, 7.00am Start - Bluegum Swamp, Winmalee. 14-28 Whitecross Rd, Winmalee.  We'll meet in the Coles Shopping Centre carpark, at the Northern end nearest to Little Zak's Academy (childcare centre). Toilets are available within the Shopping Centre complex pre- and post-run, as well as post-run coffees and breakfast.

We'll head along Whitecross Rd to the trailhead, head down towards Bluegum Swamp, with a short detour to inspect a hidden grotto. Then about 4.5kms into the run, we'll climb up Bees Nest fire trail and venture out to Grose Head South lookout. After a little extra exploring via some single track, we're heading back down Bees Nest into Bluegum Swamp before ascending onto Shaw's Ridge for a fast, undulating few kms of wide fire trail back to our cars.

I'm expecting this run to be at least 15kms, 400m of vertical ascent and 2 - 2.5hrs for those seeking an easy pace. Lots of extra vert or out-and-backs for those pursuing a faster hit out.

Rating: Effort 3/5; Technical difficulty 2/5

Distance (total) : 15 kms (approx)

Estimated Time: 2 - 2.5hrs

Sunday 3rd Nov 7.00am - Megalong Cemetry to Cox's River Camp ground return.

Optional 6.00am start at Explorers tree (and we wait at Megalong cemetry for all 7.00am starters)

This is one of my all time favourite runs. From the Megalong Cemetery we head down the Six Foot track passing through some beautiful farmland before transitioning into more forested single track. The track heads mainly downhill as we start to follow the Cox's River until we hit the new Bowtell's suspension bridge and finish at the Cox's River campground. Don't waste all your energy getting there as we then turn around and the beautiful downhill becomes an energy sapping return back to the cemetery.

Rating: Effort 3/5; Technical difficutly 3/5

Distance (total) : 15 kms (approx)

Estimated Time: 2.5hrs (from Megalong Cemetry)
