At Sea to Summit we set out to design a mat that was better than what was already available. ‘Better’ is of course a very subjective ambition: while we could have made the lightest, or the most compact mat ever designed, we ultimately went back to why we carry a sleeping mattress into the wild in the first place — to give us a better night’s sleep. Down is the best insulation for lightweight sleeping bags due to its loft, compressibility and durability. However, this golden fibre has a failing: its ability to insulate drastically decreases when it is wet.

The solution is now here – DWR DOWN. This down has been selected to meet our rigorous standards, with a durable water-repellent (DWR) treatment applied after the cleaning and sorting process.

The benefits of DWR DOWN are:

• It absorbs less water in damp conditions
• It retains higher loft (insulation) in damp conditions
• It dries faster

Cocoon sleeping bags are filled with our 800+ loft DWR DOWN for greater weight savings.

The Coolmax sleeping bag liner is made with 100% Coolmax polyester. Coolmax has exceptional cooling and drying properties; the fabric draws perspiration along its fibres away from the skin, providing permanent moisture management performance.

The stretchy fabric is super soft and comfortable, providing greater freedom of movement whilst regulating body temperature as you sleep. Features an integrated pillow sleeve, contact germ guard and Polygiene odour control technology. The anti-microbial treatment is integral to the fibres within the fabric preventing the build up of odour causing bacteria, keeping your sleeping bag liner cleaner and smelling fresher for longer.

The secret is in the manufacturing process: thousands of hollow fibres are sandwiched between a high-density thermal barrier and a fine, soft, body-conforming radiant retention layer to form one continuous sheet of Thermolink fibre. As it is one continuous layer, there aren’t any gaps for heat to escape, leading to better performance than traditional baffled fills.

Sac sleeping bags are made using lightweight and highly breathable 20-denier Vapour Vent fabric. This strong, compressible and highly breathable fabric uses a tight weave that keeps the insulation in but allows water vapour to escape. This reduces the possibility of clamminess and allows the insulation to loft fully for maximum performance.
